Today we’ll be going over the features of each kit, along with the build quality, and giving you our thoughts about the performance. In addition, we’ll also be talking about our final verdict and purchase decision.

While you can purchase the SN6Y Soundbar and SPK8-S Rear Speakers separately, there is complete set available right now.

LG 5.1 Full Surround Soundbar

The LG 5.1 Soundbar Kit is complete with the SN6Y 3.1 Soundbar and the SPK8-S 2.0 Rear Speaker Kit. We’ll be reviewing these two separately, but the work perfectly together and sync up nicely. The specific unit for sale comes with both kits, however they can be purchased separately if you want.

Combining the 3.1 system with a 2.0 wireless rear speaker kit helps to support a full 5.1 surround sound system. What is the difference between 3.1, 2.0 and 5.1? We did a comprehensive differentiation between different types of soundbar, and what to expect with the one you’re purchasing.

LG SN6Y 3.1 Soundbar Review

Features

Starting off with the features of the LG SN6Y 3.1 Soundbar. It has a 3-channel setup with a 1-channel wireless subwoofer. The soundbar features DTS Virtual:X for virtual immersion. It allows for virtual height and surround channels, enhanced bass, and crystal-clear dialogue.

Additionally, LG has high-resolution audio with a bitrate of 24-bit/96kHz audio resolution. LG’s AI Sound Pro uses adaptive sound algorithms to control audio levels and treble/bass response based on what you’re watching. And, for connectivity LG gives you a Bluetooth connection, optical connection, and HDMI ARC.

Build Quality

When it comes to build quality, the LG SN6Y soundbar is very well built. It features a solid plastic and metal exterior, with metal grills. The buttons on the side for control feel solid and reliable. They have a satisfying tactile feel. Additionally, the subwoofer is solidly built with a wood construction.

Performance

As far as performance goes, this 3.1 soundbar sounds exceptional for the size and power. It offers 560 watts of power with a solid sounding subwoofer.

Starting off with the subwoofer, it delivers a powerful punch with a dimensional sound experience that will blow any stock system out of the water. When watching fight or war scenes, the subwoofer helps add a massive layer to the already powerful soundbar.

For the 3.1-channel soundbar, it provides a center channel for clear dialogue, and 2 left/right channels. The channels work very well to separate the sound and add a layer to the sound stage. It gets plenty loud, and doesn’t distort at high volumes. If used for music, it works well as a “stereo” system as well.

LG SPK8-S 2.0 Rear Speaker Kit Review

Features

Starting off with the features of the LG SPK8-S 2.0 Wireless Rear Speaker Kit. It is an add-on or expansion set for an existing LG Soundbar. The SPK8-S kit gives you 2 wireless rear channels for your soundbar. While the actual speakers need wires, they only have to connect to a wireless control box.

They are easily wall mountable, and the wireless connection between the box and LG soundbar is seamless. Additionally, they can be used with the SL10YG, SL9YG, SL8YG, SL6Y, or SL5Y soundbars.

The speakers are each 70 watts for a total power output of 140 watts. This brings the total output for this setup to 700 watts (560W + 140W).

Build Quality

When it comes to build quality, the SPK8-S kit is extremely well built. They are basically all metal construction for the actual speaker units and the wireless box is plastic. The speakers themselves are heavy, but not heavy enough to have issues mounting. They feel solid and durable.

Performance

As far as performance is concerned, the LG SPK8-S kit is an awesome addition to pretty much any of the compatible soundbars. They provide just the right amount of surround sound and sound great when used with music as well. You can adjust their volume independently of the rest of the system and we kept ours around +4/+5.

Final Verdict

In conclusion, we highly recommend the LG 5.1 Soundbar Surround System. It is the personal system we use in our home everyday and it works very well. The soundbar system provides the perfect amount of a sound for a small-medium sized room (quite honestly could be used in a large room as well). As a bonus, there are a lot of virtual surround soundbars out there, however this system is fully physical which is a big advantage.

So, if you’re looking for a soundbar system for your home theater or just to elevate your sound, then this system should be perfect for you!
