The Lenovo Flex 5 laptop is a thin, portable and stylish 2-in-1 laptop from Lenovo. The Flex 5 laptop is sporting the new Ryzen 4500 with Radeon Vega 6 Graphics. In combination, these make for a powerful little 14-inch laptop.

In addition to the processor and GPU, the Lenovo Flex 5 also includes 16 GB of DDR4-3200mHz dual-channel memory (RAM). The 256 GB SSD adds a good amount of high-speed storage to compliment the RAM.

Lenovo claims up to 10 hours of battery life, with an ability to quick charge to up to 80% in 60 minutes. The Flex 5 has a 2-in-1 360 degree hinge that allows your laptop to function as a tablet.

Finally, the Lenovo Flex 5 laptop has a 14-inch 1080p IPS touchscreen with an included pen. The included pen is a nice touch that some premium devices won’t include!

Build Quality

The Flex 5 laptop is made from high quality plastic material. In addition, the wrist deck is coated in a rubberized material. The hinge is built strong, but is difficult to open with one hand because of its spring strength. There is one exhaust fan on the back allowing for hot air to escape.

Compared to the 3500U Flex 14, the 2020 Lenovo Flex 5 laptop has a better build quality, feel and toughness to it. Overall, the build quality is good, but could be better. For this laptop’s price, the quality couldn’t be better. The hinge and chassis are strong without any creeks.

One thing you usually expect with budget laptops is a low build quality standard. Typically value or budget laptops are possible because of lower quality materials used in the manufacturing process. This allows companies to ensure that the price can be kept lower. In addition, they will often cheap out on some “less important parts” like WiFi cards, expansion speeds and graphics chips. Combined, they all add the “budget effect” to a laptop.

The Lenovo Flex 5 does not suffer from the budget effect. Lenovo somehow fit everything into a fair price, while still maintaining quality components. I believe this is due to the prices of AMD Ryzen processors. Lenovo doesn’t have to cheap out on components in the Flex 5. They provide good build quality along with higher quality components.

The Ryzen 4500 CPU along with the Vega 6 GPU provides adequate power and performance without much power draw. The Vega 6 is approximately 10% faster than last year’s Lenovo Flex 5 at less power (15W compared to 25W).

The six-core Ryzen processor performed very well in benchmarks. In Geekbench, the Flex 5 received a 1070 on the single-core score and 4502 on the multi-core score. Basically, it has plenty of power to handle everyday tasks along with some light photo and video editing.

As far as usability, the Lenovo Flex 5 Review will show you that it is extremely usable for day-to-day activities. When looking at some of the best budget laptops you can buy, the 2020 Lenovo Flex 5 will easily top the lists.

While it doesn’t have metal construction or a super premium feeling trackpad, the Flex 5 will perform very well for day-to-day tasks or for students.

Lenovo Flex 5 Cases

There are several cases for the Lenovo Flex 5 available. But, this one was our favorite because of it’s versatile nature (and it’s pretty awesome design)!

Final Thoughts

Finally we have come to the conclusion of the 2020 Lenovo Flex 5 Laptop Review.

The Lenovo Flex 5 with Ryzen 4500, 16GB of DDR4 RAM, 256GB SSD, and 14-inch 1080p touchscreen is one of the most well-priced laptops I have seen for sale in a long time.

Build quality, performance and portability are all key aspects of the Flex 5 and Lenovo did a great job highlighting them at an affordable price. Finding an affordable laptop that will actually last you throughout college or a day-to-day work life is challenging.

But, Lenovo really pulled it together with the 2020 Flex 5 and I will continue to recommend it to college students or anyone who needs a great value oriented laptop!

I love(ed) this laptop… for 4 months, when it developed video/monitor issues. I purchased the ‘premium care’ warranty option. While you CAN reach a person to talk to – and YOU will have to call THEM to get a status update – I have NOT received any real world assessment of a repair time. Their communication skills have been dismal. I have just watched their repair order webpage ‘schedule’ roll forward automatically to being ‘scheduled for repairs’ the next day, day after day after day… I spent a lot of $$$$ for a ‘quality’ business class machine which would be dependable. Wish I’d gotten that custom build HP machine that I was ready to order when someone redirected me to this one.
Build Quality – check the Costco reviews to verify that! I’m not the only one – only wish it was still within the return time for Costco!
